President's Challenge

Thanks to all the ladies for participating in all of our wonderful events throughout the year, another year is finished and another year's planning is in the works, Look out - we have some amazing things coming up next year!!!

So after this amazing day of painting was over, my SIL drove home to change, my Mum drove home to her cottage and some girls came over to change and get ready at my house with me because we were off to a FAB dinner and trunk show with Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. For those of you unfamiliar with Carrie she is the creator of the Schnibbles line of patterns - which are absolutely adorable!!

Our table was full of so many laughs after so much good food and a nice glass of wine we (I) got the giggles boy did we (I) have so much fun, along with everyone else at the table. Thanks to all my dear Quilting buddies for making it the best night!

unfortunately I didn't bring my awesome D90 but I did have my iPhone which is 3MB so I shot these few photos with that, enjoy.

check out her binding clips, she really uses this many - isn't that an absolute riot!!

then we had to get some photos with us girls and she was such a delight to sit and chat with..

Last is me with her, she signed out patterns and fabric packs like a real trooper, thanks Carrie for taking the time to laugh and be with us, we loved it!

June 12 is our wind-up party and we have an apron challenge that will indeed be judged that day, Yikes, I'm so glad mine is done these look like good candidates!

All 500+ quilts are supplied from Calgary and surrounding areas, the volunteers at Heritage Park lay, hang, display, cover, and many more positions of showing off our quilts for everyone to see in the most historic of buildings on the town grounds at Heritage Park.

One thing Calgary, Alberta, CANADA is famous for besides the Calgary Stampede is their Udderly Art around the city...yes you are reading this right udderly...

So the Quilters cannot be left out, right?

The Flying Needles Guild gathered on Thursday for an excellent lecture and workshop on the Luminosity Quilt

Jan B stayed up late on Thursday night to complete her quilt top for show and tell on Friday - this is just stunning Jan!

Friday, I was supposed to take the workshop on Role of Colour but unfortunately my life got busy and I couldn't attend the workshop. I was however on setup and in charge of a few things for the Friday night Trunk Show and when I arrived the room was a buzzin with inspired and connected women from the workshop that day. From what I can tell, from the enthusiasm in the room when I arrived, I should never miss another work shop again!!

Trunk Show was an unbelievably enlightening evening full of visual stimulation and of course good food and camaraderie with new and familiar faces. It was a superb night, thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped out!!

"Happy Go Lucky" this is the workshop I took on Saturday, all solids and it was so fun, everyone's looked totally different.

"Raindrops" Bill Kerr explained it kind of like this...picture the rain drops hitting the still water, this is the effect it gives once it penetrates the stillness...

As a side note: Bill was an exceptional speaker, he made things relateable and made us appreciate current things in our surroundings like chairs, buildings, highways and more. I know it sounds a bit different from the traditional way we think about quilting like 9-patch, log cabin, etc

Well ladies, that is only a tip of what I learned and I'm sure other people took away so much more. Very grateful to have been part of this, I've heard some talk about them coming back up our way in the Spring :)

I also wanted to thank Robyn for the amazing home made Egg Nog which I LOVED (sorry if some of you didn't get to try it as I did have a couple of helpings...:)

I heard from so many of you through-out the day about how much you loved this gift exchange. It didn't seem to feel like a challenge this year to come up with something and I don't think one person in the room felt dissapointed with what they received, so great on all of you for making this special for all of us :) From the overwhelming comments about doing this again next year, we'll (I'll) see what we can do:)

To those ladies who couldn't be with us for whatever busy reason that happens this time of year, we missed you! Please also keep Shirley H in our prayers and thoughts.
