Flying Needles Quilt Guild (entry 16)

Hi Everyone, I'm so please to report on our Fun Quilts Lecture(s) and Trunk Show is was FAB!!!

The Flying Needles Guild gathered on Thursday for an excellent lecture and workshop on the Luminosity Quilt

here's Susan G's graduation of reds

Jan B stayed up late on Thursday night to complete her quilt top for show and tell on Friday - this is just stunning Jan!

Friday, I was supposed to take the workshop on Role of Colour but unfortunately my life got busy and I couldn't attend the workshop. I was however on setup and in charge of a few things for the Friday night Trunk Show and when I arrived the room was a buzzin with inspired and connected women from the workshop that day. From what I can tell, from the enthusiasm in the room when I arrived, I should never miss another work shop again!!

Trunk Show was an unbelievably enlightening evening full of visual stimulation and of course good food and camaraderie with new and familiar faces. It was a superb night, thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped out!!

"Happy Go Lucky" this is the workshop I took on Saturday, all solids and it was so fun, everyone's looked totally different.

"Raindrops" Bill Kerr explained it kind of like this...picture the rain drops hitting the still water, this is the effect it gives once it penetrates the stillness...

As a side note: Bill was an exceptional speaker, he made things relateable and made us appreciate current things in our surroundings like chairs, buildings, highways and more. I know it sounds a bit different from the traditional way we think about quilting like 9-patch, log cabin, etc

"Leaves"

 "Outside of the Box" slight variation of a log cabin assembly anyway..

"Starry Starry Night"

Bill Kerr and Janice, Janice had Bill sign one of her quilt blocks, what a great idea.

Here's my blocks for my Happy Go Lucky quilt - I want to get this quilt finished so I can hang it in my new studio.

Hi Shirley, and closest to us is Ana's blocks gorgeous.

Well ladies, that is only a tip of what I learned and I'm sure other people took away so much more. Very grateful to have been part of this, I've heard some talk about them coming back up our way in the Spring :)

Shannon M is in charge of scrapbook for our Guild and here's a little slide show she did up for us capturing so much more...thanks Shannon. If you want to follow Weeks with her excellent blog and sense of humour (read her post on April fools day pranks it's a riot!!) check it out here, Craft Nectar

Until next time,

Flying Needles Quilt Guild (entry 10)

Hi Ladies, I absolutely loved our Christmas exchange this year with Flying Needles Quilt Guild. This Guild is fairly new in age but has such a vested nature in one another and respect for each other that it is a real pleasure to belong to. Since I am one of the founding members, I can truly say how much I love being part of this group. All of the ladies are warm and friendly and open with offering support and praise upon each other. I am related to two of the members in this group Karen R and Colleen M through marriage but I feel a kinship and sister-ship with so many of you.

Here's some photos of our amazing gift exchange bags and WOW did this ever turn out to be a hit!!

{All of the bags...amazing}

{I think this one is Carol L's...I love yo-yo's!}

{Center: Anna with her custom drawn and painted fabric...beautiful, bottom right: Colleen M: with her cute Rice Bag Foot Warmer which I believe Anna B received...hmm was it meant to be?}

{This is the one I received from Riska & I love the colours, thanks for the pretzels and the matching fabrics, I will put those to good use :)}

{I must also give a shout out to Mary D (I think) as she made about 30+ of these fabric wrapped Christmas crackers complete with little inspirational saying, needles, candies and so much more, thanks so much what a nice treat and surprise!!}

++++++++++

I also wanted to thank Robyn for the amazing home made Egg Nog which I LOVED (sorry if some of you didn't get to try it as I did have a couple of helpings...:)

I heard from so many of you through-out the day about how much you loved this gift exchange. It didn't seem to feel like a challenge this year to come up with something and I don't think one person in the room felt dissapointed with what they received, so great on all of you for making this special for all of us :) From the overwhelming comments about doing this again next year, we'll (I'll) see what we can do:)

To those ladies who couldn't be with us for whatever busy reason that happens this time of year, we missed you! Please also keep Shirley H in our prayers and thoughts.

Have a wonderful Christmas, Flying Needles Quilt Guild and a Happy New Year.
