Quilting - Get Started, Freebie, A Kittens Tale (116)

Hi Everyone, how are you? What have you been working on lately? Last week I completed a few things including 1 hard block with about 20 inset seams, yikes it was a doozie but I LOVE the way it turned out

I finished Block 3 of A Kittens Tale bom which is so adorable...here's the preview, I still have the yo-yos and stitching to complete

These two blocks almost took me an entire day to complete but look how amazing...well I think so anyway...they turned out :)

Then I got down to it and finished the sampler top for my last class in the Quilting - Get Started program on Wednesday night and I'm quite pleased, it's so cheery and fun looking, what do you think? We will be cutting borders, layering, basting on Wednesday night, I'm kind of sad to be finished I'm so enjoying the teaching.

Check out my new Class set for the Fall Semester

Cathedral Tote

Quilting - Get Started

I'm also working on a swap with Quilting Gallery's website called "Be Amoungst the Bees" it's a cute stitchery pattern I'm going to do using my silks. Are any of you doing this swap? If so, do you already have yours completed, what did you choose for fabrics?

Also, please vote on our new Poll for 2010 block of the months clubs that are coming, we need your help!! Until next time, have a happy and creative day,

Update, Blocks, Guest Honeypot (entry 86)

Hi all, writting this post on Wednesday night as Friday I will still be out of town. Heading to Edmonton with my Sis and the boys for a night plus seeing an ol' friend of my sisters and spending the night at my Mum's, what fun!

Update on the studio: the carpet was installed Friday and so since then it's been folding, sorting, purging, sorting, folding and more purging. Here's a bit of a clip to keep you all abreast.

Thanks to Allison Rosen and her AR way of folding fabric, I've followed suite to ensure that I can get the best space for all of this. I measured my drawer and divided it by 6.5". I used a 6.5" square ruler, and wrapped the fabric around this and folded in the exact same manor (removing the ruler as you go)

Then I got 4 even rows of fabrics, all nice and neat I won't want to use them now :)

Funny story, my DH says to me "Hey hun, is all of this your fabric?" Me: "Yes it is, why" DH: I didn't realize how much you had? Me: "Oh really?" Isn't that a riot? I don't even have that much of a stash, yet ;)

Quilt til you Wilt last weekend proved to be another awesome day, with quite a few of us gathering together we sewed, we laughed, great ol' time as usual.

Mum and I worked on getting our Freebie 15 blocks all caught up, I got these three paper pieced leaves done and the large main block almost finished. I'm quite happy with the way these turned out.

We purchased 4 Billy bookcases from Ikea and set them up today, My sweetie pie has been so great helping me get setup and sorted...thanks Babe!

This was at about 2pm, since then I've unloaded so many boxes, all of my silks and notions, etc, it's been so fun, too bad you gals weren't here to help me out ;)

I will be open next week for business by appointment only please call before you come by...

I'm also so pleased to announce that I'm the Guest Honeypot over at Snickerdoodle Dreams, thanks Darlene for having me on your site, it was really fun to do :) For those of you who create something with the drawing I included and email (valerie@pastimesonline.ca) me a pic of your project, I'll put your name in for a great prize, think something along the lines of silks.

Last but not least, here's Tig (aka Quilt Inspector) checking out the fabrics all nicely folded in a plethora of colours..."hmmm what should I pick next?"

I'm also so pleased to announce that the Lakeside Quilters here in Chestermere have voted me in to be their Vice President, thank you so much ladies and I hope I make you all proud!!

BOM Update: I've order the gorgeous silk flosses for A Kittens Tale, which I hope will commence middle of March, anyone else like to sign up? I'll be ordering the patterns next week. The Journey of a Quilter's 2nd block has just been sent out, 1st prize was drawn, 6000 yard beige cotton thread cone and 20g tin of Quilters Tea, congratulations Susanne!!

Until next time, have a happy and creative day

Freebie 15, Pizza Box, Winner (entry 76)

Hi Everyone, as you all know I was away on a retreat last weekend and I wanted to get some things completed so here's what I finished:

Zach's quilt, I'm almost finished, just need to do something with the kites then onto binding YAY!!!

Freebie Block - which I love by the way, fall is by far my favourite time of year... this block was a bit interesting to complete because I cut 4 of the blocks wrong good thing I had some extra fabric from one of the previous blocks. Sometimes it's hard to concentrate at a retreat when everyone is laughing and carrying on lol

The embroidery is complete on the 2nd block for Journey of a Quilter and it's so beautiful...

I ordered an extra kit if anyone is still interested we have a spot for you :)

My pizza box block, I love this block it's called Double "D" for those of you who follow me, this block is one I've completed quite a few times and it always turns out fabulous!

Last but not least, Jan 20th I ran a contest on my website corresponding with me being a Guest Blogger on Quilting Gallery. I drew Deb V's name, but she didn't leave an email for me to get in touch with her...so I've drawn a new winner, Tammy J - you've won a quarter of silk (19.5"x27") & interfacing to add to your stash, congrats!!!

Also, I'm at the painting stage finished the two coats of primer last night and today my wonderful sister volunteered to help out, so we will be painting baseboards, trim, etc. I've also hired a contractor friend of mine and he started yesterday so YAY I have doors :)

Here's my two choices for paint

Dusty Yellow

Shortbread

I'm leaning towards the dusty yellow as it's a bit more on the country side and the shortbread is a bit too bright.

**I would have recorded another video to show you all but I'm not sure how my DH get's these all uploaded with my fancy name and everything...next time**

Also A Kittens Tale is ready for sign up, thanks to everyone who's joined so far we have almost 10 - we would like to have 20 + please tell your friends. We would like to start this project within the next few weeks...

Until next time have a happy and creative day everyone...

Very Great Week (entry 65)

Hi Ladies, I'm please to report a VERY good week, even though I was crazy busy with the business and several 1am nights (well 2 to be exact) I still feel great.

Monday started with our cut-off on Journey of a Quilter. When we first started this Block of the Month I had 10 sign up - then I got another 13 - then I got another 2 - so that's 25 in total. We were hoping for 30 and would love for you 5 to come on over and join us!! I hope to mail out the first round of kits to everyone next week so the people that sign up now will be a couple weeks behind on your first kit only...there are some great prizes...

Tuesday is one of those days I will always remember. The Olympic Torch came through my little town of Chestermere, Alberta - just East of Calgary. I invited my sister Lisa and her two boys. We had so much fun! What a sense of community and being Canadian - I always love a good dose of both:)

I have maple leafs on my mitts but I wish I had a pair of the Olympic ones :)

here it is...lights, camera, action...awesome!

they released white doves, such a sign of peace & hope for the best days to come.

Me with my two nephews at Tim Hortons

my sister, Lisa with her two boys

After we had a bit of a hot drink, we just spent the day outside, the boys played and we visited - what a beautiful day, LOVED it!

I still had a pile of stuff to do on Tuesday, so when I got home I worked on this adorable bag I made to teach a class Wednesday night...Cathedral Windows tote bag, lined with silks and topped off with a fringe.

as you can see I'm not quite finished adding my little squares...but working on it!

don't you just love it? It's perfect to put your Journey of a Quilter block into and take with you :)

Wednesday, I taught part one of this class on and it was a success - thanks to Lakeside Girls. I brought the silks for people to pick a colour to line their bags - and they loved the silks - I was so happy!!

I also was a Guest Blogger on Quilting Gallery's website, and I got two more guest blogging requests - how fun will these be?

**********

This is the block that gave me so much frustration last week, thought I would share it with you. I'm still not happy with the final turnout...99 pieces.

3 paper pieced house blocks..."lights are on" come on in for a cup of hot Quilters Tea :)

I also worked on the Kitten's Tale Block of the Month AND I cut out the second block to Journey of a Quilter...how was your week, I would love to hear from you!

Until next time, have a happy, creative and Canadian spirited day!!

Christmas Tree, Freebie 15, Tig (entry 53)

Hi everyone, I'm sitting here thinking about my blog and how great it will be to expose all of my handmade Christmas items after Christmas...how I wish I could share them with you today as they are so cute!!

Here's a few shots to tide you over :)

{cute shot of one of my sweet little somethings on the tree}

here's my beaters...they DIED during the whipping time of my famous shortbread cookies...these are probably over 12 years old. You would think they could have made it through another year :)

This gorgeous quilt was a raffle that we did just for our own guild, we all made a somewhat scrappy block, I put the pieces together and made the piano key border and Kathy B hand quilted it, I think she said she completed this in 2 weeks, yes ladies 2 weeks!! She's amazing, thanks so much Kathy. Heather won this quilt and it's sits beautifully and cozy on her bed but she brought it to show everyone. We all wished we would have won it!!

Here's my 2nd Freebie 15 block for this year, this is called "Poplar"

Here's Tig, playing on the back deck, watching the snow drip from the window sills from above, we had a fabulous chinook come in this week so it warmed up from -30C to -2.5C, she was enjoying the warmer weather.

QUESTION: Over the holidays I'm hoping to find a new iron, I want something super hot (temperature-wise:) and high end - what are your favourites and why? I'm thinking about spending a couple hundred...please help me out finding the best iron - thanks ladies!!

Until next time, if I don't get another post in before Christmas (I hope I do) I will wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year. Have a happy, creative day...
